You Win Some, You Lose Some

The Baeksang Awards were announced on Friday, and Judy and I were so pleased we had seen some of the work of the actors and actresses who won. As I mentioned in a recent post, these awards encompass both tv and film much like the Golden Globe Awards or Academy Awards. They also include theatre, which, obviously, we haven’t seen, but in looking over the winners “Teenage Dick” is calling my name. Enough said. We’re both way behind on Korean film, but tv… hey, we‘ve got that covered! I’m only going to list the winners we have seen.

GRAND PRIZE

No surprises here. Park Eun-Bin won for her portrayal of Woo Young-Woo in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”. For those of you who watched it, she more than deserved this honor. Yoo In-Shik took home the prize in the best director category for the same show. (You need to watch this show to see Park Eun-Bin's acting ability...just phenomenal! ~ Judy)

BEST DRAMA

”The Glory”. I could have predicted this as well. This described high school bullying at it’s horrific best.

BEST DIRECTOR

See above.

BEST ACTRESS

Song Hye-Kyo “The Glory”. Again, a no brainer.

BEST ACTOR

Lee Sung-Min for “Reborn Rich”. This would be a good reason to ante up some $ for Rakuten Viki. This actor is so good we should have included him in our “Old Guys Rule” post! He did a fabulous job in 'Misaeng; An Unfinished Life' also.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Lim Je-Yeon “The Glory”. She brought the term “evil bitch“ to a whole new (low) level.

BEST NEW ACTRESS

Noh Yoon-Seo “Crash Course in Romance”. A charming newbie who has also been in “Our Blues”

BEST NEW ACTOR

Moon Sang-Min “Under the Queen’s Umbrella”. Judy saw this and has been nagging me (politely) to watch it.

BEST SCREENPLAY

Park Hae-Young “My Liberation Notes”. Judy and I disagreed on this. She disliked it. I liked it. It was a long, slow slog through the lives of three siblings who are trying to find fulfillment in their mundane lives. (Judy never found a glimpse of fulfillment...)

TAKEAWAYS

All I can say is, boy, we need to get a life or two! (Whatever for? ~Judy)
