Wow...the work environment.

One of the most shocking things I've seen on Kdramas is the Workplace. I worked full time my entire adult life and the work environments that are depicted in many Kdramas is nothing like I've seen! I certainly have made plenty of mistakes in my working career but some of the behavior on Kdramas is beyond belief. Objectionable things include:

•Supervisors kicking the shins of subordinates when they do something wrong.

•Public shaming of an employee's background or education level.

•Groping of female employees during 'team building' activities like Karaoke.

•Harsh demeaning of female employees stating they are not as capable as men.

•Asking co-workers if they're dating and loudly encouraging them to do so.

•Going out for drinks and dinner as a team building event where most attendees get totally drunk.

•Publicly asking co-workers who they find attractive in the office; usually done when all the office staff is present.

Obviously I cannot tell if these depictions of Korean workplaces is accurate or totally fictionalized. In the USA I don't think any of this behavior would be permitted or condoned. I wish I could discuss this topic with someone from Korea to find out the real story!

I am afraid much of the additudes and actions from the past are covert now but still there.

I actually think things HAVE improved Donna! I certainly remember the sexist jokes of the 70's and I don't think that happens very much any more. And, I found that I was treated pretty fairly by most people in the business community. Yes, there are ridiculous, bad actors in the public arena but I'm hoping they are the exception!

Helloooooo! Do you remember the Women's Movement of the 1960s and 1970s when all ages of women publicly protested rampant mysogeny, maltreatment, disrespect, devaluation, abuse, etc. of females? Don't get me started 😡 😡

Then, a 15 years later, there were public hearings about the egregious behavior of powerful figures like Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. And, 7 years ago, the former POTUS bragged about women loving it when he grabbed their private parts and insulted women with disabilities, less than perfect faces, and careers.

Like, I said, don't get me started 😡 😡

And, unbelievably, in 2022 women still earn 82% of what men earn for doing the same jobs.

In my opinion, at least in the USA, these…

Here's hoping it's only fictionalized as I'd hate to work under those conditions. Ugh.
