It's Judy! On Post #300 Pat talked about some of the things she's gotten out of our blog and Kdramas. How have I benefitted? Mainly it's the fun that Pat and I have together while discussing shows and coming up with blog posts. But there are other things too.

1. It has freed me. I mean where can I talk about gorgeous, YOUNG, Korean men and not get labeled a predator? Our readers have been very understanding of my fascination and do not jeer at me, nor has anyone called the authorities.
2. I've learned a lot. At my age it's sometimes a challenge to come up with a new topic that fascinates me to the point I want to learn more, and more, and more. Well, Kdramas introduced me to Korean culture. It's been absolutely life expanding!
3. I've met - both directly and indirectly - some interesting folks. In particular Song, Barbara, & Alina.... but also Deb, Laura, Michelle, Yvonne, Sally, MarciHulaMouse, Amy, Randi, Ann-Marie, Christine, Tarja, and many, many more. These are people who I would not know if not for this interest in Kdramas and Korea.
4. I've discovered a very wide variety of Korean music... not just Kpop but songs from the 60's, folk music, ballads, Trot music, and even some Japanese and Chinese songs thrown in for good measure. I usually don't know the words - nor the meaning - but that hasn't stopped me!
5. I've become admired by a group of people who trusted me to plan a trip to Korea. I am still basking in their adoration for pulling this off. (It actually wasn't that difficult but I'm going to keep that a secret since I'm getting lots of mileage from my popularity with this group.... why burst their bubble?)
6. I've taken perverse pleasure in shocking my kids. At first they kind of didn't believe it... 'hey kids, I'm watching subtitled Korean shows & it's fun...' But now they realize I'm obsessed with Kdramas and can say the most ridiculous things in my blog posts. It's kind of fun to embarrass your kids like this. Have YOU ever 'googly-eyed' a 30 year old Korean man on the streets of Seoul with your daughter watching? Oh the thrill of it! (She noticed; but sadly, he did not...)
7. Lastly, it has given me hope. I'm absolutely sure that international stardom is just around the corner for the Gmamas. Just that 'ONE' special person needs to read, react, and share.... and Boom! We'll be invited to join Studio Dragon or Netflix to be their American expert for all things Korean. I can't wait.
Pat here: Judy this is just great… until number 7. Hope? How does it feel to be a gmama and wish upon a star? You need to dial it back to wishful thinking, dear friend. That way when it never happens you won’t be so bitterly disappointed. You know, every week I buy lottery tickets (I hope my husband isn’t reading this,) - ((don't worry Pat, family rarely reads our blog)) but I know I’ll never win the big one. I WISH I would, but I know I won’t. I’m still dogged in my pursuit, though. I’m just a tad more realistic about it than you are. You know, I’m the pragmatic one and you’re… well, you’re… the totally besotted one. I give you that. Of course I’ll eat my words if your fantasies ever come to pass!
Judy Again: You spend money on the ridiculous hope of winning the lottery? I don't know who is more ridiculous... me with stars in my eyes or you with less money in your pocket! Shall we have our readers vote?
Wait! I think we should have our readers vote on what they like the most about our blog; Is it the wealth of information usually available only to academics? Is it the fabulous and well-thought-out graphics that Judy finds to accompany each post? Perhaps it's the fact that their lives are empty and they yearn for entertainment no matter how meager? Or Is it the inane blather we seem to be able to spout on a regular basis? Dear Readers, let us hear from you!
Judy and Pat
I love your blog! I love my Korean dramas and the joy they bring me.
I have finally convinced a family member to watch a KDrama - Weak Hero. I recommend it. It’s based on a webtoon and it’s about bullying in school. It’s so fast paced and I love the young actors.
I also watched singles inferno - all 4 seasons on your recommendation. Loved it. - I liked seasons 1&2 the best.
I do read all your blogs. I’m not ignoring you when I don’t respond. My life has been turned upside down. My husband and I are caring for my 5 year old grandson while my son is at work. We lost our daughter-in-la…
I viewed and rated yesterday but now have a moment to make a comment. Wonderful reflective post, Judy. Ditto for me on so much of that! Discovering k-drama and Korea and Asian culture in general and then friends IRL like you has added a real spark to my life! I wanted to add, re: crushing on younger men... One of my big heart-throbs is Son Suk-ku, thanks to My Liberation Notes, plus he seems like a smart, cool and interesting person. But get this: In his latest project, Heavenly Ever After, which begins airing next month, he plays opposite Kim Hye-ja, who is 83! The story is that her character dies at age 80 and in heaven, reunites with her husband,…
Well I agree with both the comments below. I love all things Korean but also the rest of Asia and of course Europe too. I watch/read most of the TV shows and movies from other countries and take their music as well. My playlist is vast and in many languages, including English!
As for your Blog... Ladies I adore it. I am alone and have fallen in love with many young Korean men, since beginning to watch. (Also a few Indian (Asian) ones!!) I embarrassed my Daughter and last year - my work colleagues who were much younger than me. (I have finally fully retired from the workforce - I did that 4 years ago and lasted one year -…
