I’ve recently finished season one of Stranger. What do you think I’m going to watch next? The answer may astound you because this NEVER happens in the kdramas I watch, but next up is SEASON TWO. It’s a miracle!
In the many Kdramas I’ve watched I can’t remember one that has offered a season two. I can think of many I wish had had two seasons, but none has materialized. I mean, wouldn’t it had been great to see season two of Crash Landing on You or Start Up to name just a few. Most of the ones I’ve hoped for a second season are the romcom ones. Stranger is definitely
not a romcom, but it’s compelling drama, and I’m so pleased to be able to continue watching my two new favorite actors, Cho Seung-woo, and Bae Doona. In a real departure for me, I think I like Bae Doona more than Cho Seung-woo. She plays such a strong, kick ass cop, even with all the misogyny rampant in the male dominated police force. She’s a force to watch.
If anyone else can recommend a season two of a favorite kdrama, please let me know.
Well I have certainly recommended Season 2 of Hospital Playlist but you refused to watch even season 1! But... I agree on Bae Doona; she's terrific in Stranger. ~ Judy
Pat - Au contraire, fellow blogger, I did watch season 1 of Hospital Playlist, and I liked it. I do find the endless medical talk, well, endless, as I don’t understand a word of the complicated procedures they are performing. As one famous Hollywood producer said, “include me out”, and I concur when it comes to medical Kdramas.
Hmm. Seems like more k dramas are having a second or even third season. All of Us Our Dead, Hellbound, Moving, Uncanny Counter, DP, etc. Among those, I've only watched DP and none are rom coms. Gyeonseong Creature was planned for at least two seasons from the get go. Season 2 coming later this year.
I'll check out Stranger.
I’m finding Season 2 of Stranger harder to follow than the first season. I think it’s a more complicated theme so there might be something missing in the translation/ but it’s been harder for me to follow.
I watched both seasons of Hello, My Twenties. Both seasons were fun and I really liked all the actresses that played the housemates.
They had one new actress for season 2. It was funny because they made a point to let the audience know it wasn’t the same actress, by making a comment about her, “I don’t even recognize you!” And she replies, “It’s still me” or something like that. I thought they handled it really welI. The writers are talented.
I also loved season 2 of Stranger....
As seems to happen in western shows as well, 2nd seasons often seem weaker than the first. There are a number of true 2nd season Kdramas out there, the only ones that I've seen (and liked) were the 2nd season of DP and the second season of Welcome to Waikiki. Upcoming planned 2nd seasons are Gyeongseong Creature and Squid Game, both of which I can give a pass!
I think for me, one-and-done is a relief, story is wrapped up (hopefully in a satisfying manner) and doesn't drag on for years & loses the original charm, which happens to so many western shows.
