TheNewGrey and Grannies

Updated: Apr 16

Guys who started TheNewGrey on Instagram; aren't they great?

Does this post have anything to do with Kdramas? Absolutely not!

Judy and I have become enamored of ALL THINGS KOREAN. If you find this hard to believe, just ask Judy about Korean lessons or how I only use my Korean spoons when eating soup.

In this vein, we have started to follow two groups of seniors on Instagram. The men are TheNewGrey, and the women, Grannies. They’re all slim, well coifed, and beautifully dressed. For me, the best part is that several of them have let their hair remain gray. This includes both sexes.

You might be wondering why I’m using “gray,” and they are spelling it “grey.” While neither is more correct, “gray“ is commonly used in the USA, and “grey” is used more in England.

These groups are not just your run of the mill Instagrammers trying to get followers from their videos like our grandchildren are doing. They’re professional, organized groups with an emphasis on marketing their brand.

Truthfully, what I’ve described above pertains more to the men than the women. Grannies spend much of their posts looking great but performing amateurish dance moves. I feel a little sorry for them that they don’t have the machine behind them to make them look more professional. And to add insult to injury, TheNewGrey has expanded to include women. Even their name, Grannies, doesn’t make one want to check them out. (Update: Grannies has bit the dust... no longer posting!)

What really is galling though is that there is no one in either group close to my age!

If you’ve watched either on Instagram, let me know.

Wow, American men should take style lessons from the New Grey!

Somewhere I read that the guys from the New Grey were lifelong friends with an interest in fashion. They wanted to put forth the idea that life doesn't end when we turn grey.... that there are still more things to enjoy and embrace. But then again, that could be total fiction for all I know!

What do they do? Can’t make much of their Instagram. Except they look great. But I see more ladies the last posts so that’s a bummer.

Ann-Marie, are you asking what their careers are? We have no clue. It would be interesting to see if we could find more information about the individuals involved, but how is the question. A younger, more techie person could probably do a deeper dive than I could.
