Okay, I had to do a deep dive into the world of Seo Jeon-yeon for this post. This gorgeous middle age woman keeps popping up in my Kdramas as the universal mother. Although she plays lots of mothers, even the roles where she doesn't play a mother, she's there with maternal vibes all over the place.
Cases in point:
In Descendants of the Sun she plays a SENIOR nurse. For Something in the Rain, she breaks stereotype and is a distant SENIOR marketing director but still has her young protégé's back. One Spring Night she's a SENIOR pharmacist who watches out for Jung Hae-in. In Reborn Rich she's MOTHER to ill fated Jin Do-jun. In The Interest of Love she's MOTHER to one of Judy's heartthrobs, Yoo Yeon-seok.
People, do we see a pattern here?
If you take a look at her face, she's got the perfect combination of beauty, caring, and tenderness that makes her the ideal mother figure. So what's my beef? (Yes, it's me, so I always have one.) She only FORTY EIGHT YEARS OLD!
Let's do the math. I'm 76, and my adult children are 45, 43, and 36. In all the shows she's in, Jeon-yeon is matriarch to her flock, and they are at least 30 years or older! Don't forget she's 48... so that makes her a (shudder) child bride in every show! Hey, she could have starred in a Korean version of "Teen Mom!"
Of course there are many other Korean actors who fit this category. Kim Hae-sook
owns the current official title of "Korea"s Mother," and I have seen her in many Kdramas. She's the real deal. She's 67!!
Seo Jeon-yeon is excellent. I think in k dramas, if you didn't start out as an ingenue, you're cast in mother roles pretty early on.
Happy to bring some Korean serum but I'll need to know who wants it! And Yes, I will be getting a Korean facial when I am visiting. I'll be asking for the '30 years younger & 30 lbs lighter special...'
Please bring me some serum from Korea!
How do they have such perfect skin without any wrinkles! I'm counting on both of you finding out when you take your trips to Korea.
