I recently welcomed grandchild #3 to the family (it's a Boy!) and wanted to point out a difference in the birthing process in the US versus Korea. (I'm also told this applies to other East Asian countries but have not confirmed that.)
Here in the US you deliver the baby and get moved to a rather mundane, recovery room. You stay there for perhaps 1-3 days depending on how the delivery went. Well, American moms, we're missing out! In Korea it's not unusual to be sent to a 'post-partum' or a 'joriwon' recovery space for 3 weeks!! Included in this visit are massages, facials, round-the-clock babysitting,... kind of like a spa! Check out the accomodations shown below; somehow that's not how I remember recovery rooms here in Tucson.
