ONE HUNDRED AND COUNTING*

*IT’S OUR 100TH POST!! Judy and I are giving ourselves a big pat on the back that we’ve just written our 100th blog post. When we started this many months ago, we had no idea where this would go, and now we’re here. And we’re pretty pleased with ourselves.

I’ve decided to commemorate this momentous occasion by doing a top ten list about why I like Kdramas. Here goes:

ONE: The depth and complexity of the stories

I‘m amazed at how involved each Kdrama is. Each story is so multi layered that by the end of the series I feel like I’ve learned volumes about each subject matter.

TWO: Korean culture

This is why I’m writing this blog. I’ve become fascinated with the endless amounts of cultural information about how Korea is so different from where I live.

THREE: Korean food

What can I say here? “Yummo” comes to mind. I’m interested in trying almost everything that is shown on kdramas. I do have to say my fascination with Korean food stops at “Hangover Soup”, especially the kind made with congealed ox blood. It won’t be passing my palate anytime soon.

FOUR: Korean history

Watching Kdramas from the Joseon Period has given me a glimpse of the complicated history that is still being dissected and discussed today.

FIVE: Korean music

There is something for every taste here: original music, kpop songs, trot music, and much more. Although I can’t understand a word of it, the music enhances each episode.

SIX:* The swoon worthy actors

What more is there to say?

SEVEN: Everyone else

There are so many fine character actors in kdramas. In many ways they have become more endearing to me than the people mentioned above (and in many ways not…).

EIGHT: The Cinematography Case in point: Watch “Mr. Sunshine.” The cinematography will astound you.

NINE: The total fun it’s been getting friends and relatives to watch Kdramas

Most of the Kdrama Gmamas followers have been cajoled into watching Kdramas by Judy and me. They’re nominally polite about our obsession but they don’t go overboard. When someone gets hooked the way we have, we’re ecstatic, and this has actually happened!

TEN: Getting to write this blog

Okay, this one doesn’t make much sense being in my Top Ten list, but I’ve had such a good time contributing to the Kdrama Gmamas that I had to include it. This blog was Judy’s idea, and all the kudos go to her. She came up with our name, most of the posts are hers, and she figured out how to post on both FB and Instagram, no small feat for grandmas. Thanks, Judy, for letting me in on all the fun.

*Truth be told, I would have put number six as number one, but it would have made me look too much like a stalker, so I nestled it in the middle of the list. That way I don’t look like it’s the only reason for watching kdramas.
