I felt like I needed to remind everyone that nothing has changed for me. I'm in the middle of a 16-episode, Joseon period, Kdrama called Captivating the King and I notice a couple of things.
Firstly, I barely have any idea what's going on. Yep, Kdramas are complex... we've said that before. (Actually we say Kdramas have complex storylines...but really that means we frequently don't know what's going on until the last episode.) The intrigue, plot twists, references to people we have forgotten - just make it kind of amazing. I mean, I'm sitting in front of the TV thinking 'what is going on?' 'is this a good guy or a bad guy?' 'did something happen when I glanced away?' 'huh?'
Secondly, how can all these Korean actors be so gorgeous? I mean, even the men have absolutely flawless skin.
And lastly, I do love Joseon clothing.... men looking sexy in robes, beautiful vivid colors, and absolutely sumptuous silks. Who could ask for more? ~ Judy
I'm glad it's not just me who gets confused by the complex storylines. All your questions listed above sound just like me! I often read the Dramabeans recaps after each episode or even during the episode to sort out what's going on. Right now I'm loving Stranger, but my head would really be spinning if I didn't have Dramabeans. Its other title, Forest of Secrets, pretty well describes it! But yeah, the politics of those Joseon-era stories can get pretty intricate!
Thank you dear Guest.... I'll add Queen of Tears to my list of 'must watch.' She did a fabulous job on Crash Landing so expectations will be high.
And Donna, 16+ hours of escapism amidst gorgeous people and costumes... not all bad. Plus it keeps me off the streets.
You think you're confused? I know nothing of the history and culture so I'm dazed, confused, and lost. Wait! You volunteered for 16 hours (episodes) of confusion? Girlfriend, get a grip!
Are you watching queen of tears? Its by the same writer we met at Stanford! 😍
