Have you noticed how drop dead gorgeous the lead actors and actresses are in Kdramas? Yes, they are swoon worthy for the most part, and if they aren’t, by the end of 16 plus episodes you think they are anyway.
Judy and I have our favorites. Naturally they are the guys. We both loved Lee Byung-hun in Mr. Sunshine and Our Blues, and Jung Hae-in from Something in the Rain, D.P., and Snowdrop. Oh, and let’s not forget Kim Seon-ho in Start Up and Hometown Cha Cha Cha. Clearly, I could go on and on here, but this blog is supposed to be about the other kind of lead actor, the not so good looking guy.
I’m watching Divorce Attorney Shin, and the lead character, played by Cho Seung-woo, is, well, a bit homely. In this series his hair is unkempt, he wears goofy glasses (not the Korean ones described in a different post), his clothing is a bit rumpled, and he comes off as kind of a mess. AND HE’S ADORABLE! Okay, his character drinks too much and his sing alongs with his two loser buddies are awful, but there is something so appealing about him that I’m hooked on this series.
I’ve seen pictures of him in real life, and he’s quite well put together. In fact, I would go as far as to say he’s not only appealing but also attractive, but he’s not the guy I’m smitten with. I’m smitten with the B list guy, or, as it’s sung in ‘Funny Girl’, ‘Everything you got’s about right, but the damn thing don’t come out right’. He’s got a certain je ne sais quoi, and it just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Agree with Pat wholeheartedly. Plus the lead isn't as young as many of our Kdrama stars are but rather a 40-something year old! Oh, and I learned something interesting while watching this series.... watch for the post titled 'Something Totally New!' ~ Judy
I first saw Cho Seung-woo in Forest of Secrets (aka Stranger) in which he plays a character who has (almost) no emotions due to brain surgery in childhood. He also seemed a bit homely to me (although with a pretty mouth). I recently started Divorce Attorney Shin (which I'm loving) because the role in Forest of Secrets required such a flat affect, yet he was still compelling, and I wanted to see what he'd look like playing a normally emotive guy.
Well, as it turns out, I found him to be beautiful. Wow. And also impressively built (catch his thighs when he's wearing shorts in some scenes).
The guy's a fantastic actor, and btw, I'd give Forest of Secrets seasons…
I’m watching Divorce Attorney Shin and I love it! I still can’t believe how many stories the writers come up with. And the majority of them are so good. Love my KDramas😊
Hmmm. A new one to watch!!!
