Judy here...
After watching Kdramas for a while I have noticed that Koreans are voracious eaters. Many shows feature enthusiastic eating on the parts of the actors and I've noticed something unfair. Almost all Koreans are slim and trim; I don't think the women weigh more than 100 lbs yet they eat like American football players during playoff season. Frequently you'll see 2 people eating together and they have boxes and boxes and boxes of food. They'll be enjoying large bowls of noodles, the ubiquitous side dishes, soup with rice, chicken piled high....and let's not forget the soju! I don't understand how they can pack this food away!
In contrast I will enjoy 1 piece of chicken and call it a meal; and me at 100 lbs predates The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. Now does that seem fair? Pat says the basic Korean diet is filled with lots of soups and vegetables; they would have to be eating that 29 days out of 30 to make up for the huge meals I see on the shows! I think it's genetics; and they hit the jackpot!
I’m just hungry thinking about how much they eat and how little they weigh. I just read that Coldplay superstar Chris Martin has sworn off eating dinner. What? I've read he’s doing it for weight control. Try telling that to a Korean who is rewarded with “beef” for doing a good job at work. And this isn’t any beef. This is fatty pork! I agree with Judy: they’ve won the lottery!
It could also be that they walk a lot.. on my trips to japan and korea i think i walked like 20-30k steps daily! And also high metabolism lol..
It is very interesting and who knows if they may develop heart disease when they get older.
