I'll bet you didn't even know this was a thing! But in Korea, instead of using knives to cut meat into smaller pieces they use big, kitchen shears. In BBQ restaurants they provide these scissors to the table so the large pieces can become manageable. I found this really odd when I first glimpsed it but now it's kind of normal to me. I've tried it and must say that the shears are easier to handle!
When eating at a 'steak' restaurant Koreans will use knives to cut up meat on their plate; but cutting up communal dishes is almost always done with shears.
Do you think they use shears on communal dishes because they haven’t been in anyone’s mouth?
I use my kitchen shears for more things now that I have watched how they are used in Kdramas. And while we’re talking about utensils, I ONLY use my Korean spoons when I’m eating soup or cereal. The metal chopsticks? They’re like eating with dentist tools!
