K Beauty

Pat here and I’m still focused on the Asian Art Museum Hallyu exhibit in San Francisco.

As I mentioned before, it covered KDramas, KCinema, KPop, and KFashion. I neglected to mention KBeauty, which I’m going to do here. Why did I give KBeauty short shrift?

Could it be that I could never attain that look of pure, porcelain skin? Or was it because there wasn’t a wrinkle or crow’s feet in sight on anyone’s face? How about the fact that they always looked perfect with nary a bump or a pimple or mole in sight? Okay, I have seen a few moles here and there, but they’re few and far between.

But when I saw the beauty regimen that these actors go through to get this flawless look, I realized I was just too lazy to do it…and maybe even too old. (really?) If you buy what the exhibit says, this requires a TEN STEP skin care process. Do you think they mean EVERY DAY? Impossible!

When I was in Korea, I bought some “stuff.” The young woman who helped my sister and me took one look at us and steered us to the purple Innisfree brand. (I’m pretty sure it’s especially formulated for Gmamas). We both were so confused about what went where and in what order we had her label each one, and I’ve been using it ever since. Boy, do I not see a difference!

The Hallyu exhibit suggested TEN products. I’m using FOUR. I guess that means I’m almost halfway there. But halfway to where?

Judy's turn. All of the Gmamas are now diligently seeking gorgeous skin after visiting Korea and admiring Korean faces in our Kdramas. Unlike Pat, I am absolutely confident that my little pink moisturizer thingie that looks like a glue stick will work miracles for me... or the facemasks that are specific for 'mature' skin although I don't know why they thought I needed that! Product endorsements or Brand Ambassadorships are surely on their way...

Hope springs eternal...You have to admit that simply posting this photo shows an amazing level of personal confidence.

I've been playing with K-beauty brands off and on for a couple of years. Maybe if I were consistent, I'd see some sort of difference, but lately, especially at night, I've been too lazy. Still, I enjoy using them when I do, because I feel like I'm pampering myself, and the packaging is pretty, and they use nice plant ingredients, and it makes me feel that much closer to being in Korea, or being in a K-drama! When we were in Seoul, I went into Olive Young (for those who don't know, a huge k-beauty store in Korea, of which there are many locations) a couple of times but quickly got overwhelmed and left! That was silly, because I've heard that…
