INSIDE JOKES

Pat here. I’m watching Love Next Door. The lead actor is Jung Hae-in who became famous (to me, anyway) after his role in Something in the Rain.

An aside here: although this has been discussed by Judy and me in older posts, I’d like to reiterate that it’s a Kdrama killer to begin watching before the entire series is available. I did that with Love Next Door, spent several days being frustrated that I couldn’t continue, found something else to watch in the interim, got all involved with the new show, and now I can’t remember exactly where I am in LND. Yes, I know: first world problem. Of course this is a not complicated story, but I’m missing out on the feeling I get when I can binge watch. Enough whining.

There are two back to back scenes that are inside jokes in this Kdrama. Here they are.

“I’ll show you a pretty cook as if there’s Something in the Rain."

“Seriously though, don’t mess with Son Ye-Jin.”

I THINK the first one was said by an actor who is not Jung Hae-in, but the second one is definitely his. (That’s what happens when you can’t binge watch!) Can you just see me, thrilled beyond belief that I actually got an inside joke and even had the stuff to take screen shots of both quotes? SCORE!!

Pat is correct on this point. It's an absolute thrill when you hear an actor mention something from another show & you understand what they're talking about! It's like you're part of the family! I recently re-watched Queen of Tears and truly enjoyed the fact that Song Joong-ki appeared IN CHARACTER as Vincenzo from a different Kdrama. That would be like Barney Fife appearing in Hawaii 5-0. (I am aware that I have just dated myself... who under the age of 60 even knows who Barney Fife is? I would pick a more current TV star if I knew any but let's just accept that I'm a Gmama.) Just kind of a surreal moment when two separate shows merge together. Great fun.
