Judy here. An intriguing thing you see in Kdramas is when they reference other Kdramas. I recently watched Guardian: the Lonely & Great God, a Kdrama made in 2016 that features the actor Lee Dong-wook who plays the Grim Reaper.

Now I'm watching Tale of the Nine-Tailed from 2020 that also features Lee Dong-wook. During this newer show he comments that someone isn't dressed like death because 'he knows something about Grim Reapers.' Now, if I hadn't seen Guardian I would not get that very subtle, inside joke!

Another humorous feature takes place in Guardian and I just learned about it. The lead is played by Gong Yoo (one of Pat's favorites.) He also played the lead in Train to Busan, a zombie movie made a bit earlier than Guardian. Well, in Guardian Gong Yoo's character goes to a movie and is hilarious in his over the top reaction to the movie: he was scared, hid his eyes, grabbed his neighbor, etc. Well, what movie was he watching? Yes, Train to Busan.
This is the kind of subtle, but clever humor you find in Kdramas. It catches you by surprise but makes the whole experience even better. It makes this Gmama feel like a true insider.

Donna on my Korea trip told me about the Gong Yoo bit in Guardian. Thank goodness for Kdrama lovers! ~ Pat
