Call it what you will: walked out on, abandoned, deserted, left, defected. Let me try to explain.
Although I will forever be wedded to the KDramas on Netflix, there is someone else in the wings who has caught my attention: Disney+. Since this a confession of sorts, I want everyone to know I wasn't looking for a replacement of my long time squeeze, but it just happened. (That's what they all say, isn't it?)
What happened was "SNOWDROP" on Disney +, and it's a thrill a minute. It stars Jung Hae In, already well known for "Something in the Rain", and "D.P.", and Jisoo from the Kpop group, BlackPink. It takes place in 1987, a year in Korea when mass protests were going on to force the South Korean government to hold democratic elections.
This series has created some controversy. It has been criticized for "historical distortion" and romanticizing the lead character, a North Korean spy. I know I will watch it to the end. Let me know if you do as well.
And as long as I am confessing to one tryst, here’s an “Oops I Did It Again” (shout out to Britney Spears) moment. I’ve become enamored of Rakuten Viki, the streaming service that showcases Asian productions. The KDrama “Reborn Rich” is only available on Rakuten Viki, and even my husband watched It. One of the male leads just won the Baeksang Award for his portrayal of the CEO of the Soonyang business empire, and he deserved it. We will do a post on the Baeksang Awards later to catch you all up on the winners.
So…is this the Kdrama Gmamas version of a ménage a trois? Asking for a friend…
Yep, 3 options for Kdramas; Netflix, Disney+, and Vivi..... so many options!
I had Snowdrop on my list, just hadn’t watched it yet. It’s my next KDrama to watch now. Can’t wait! Thanks for the recommendation. I’m going to try to get the Viki app too. I’ve seen lists with shows on Viki so now I will definitely get it.
On to Disney+
