An interesting side affect of Joseon Period Kdramas is the fact that I see so many senior actors. During the Joseon Period the emperor had dozens of ministers that met with him regularly and are featured in these shows. And let me tell you, this is an opportunity for those of us who are over 70 and interested in breaking into the acting industry!
In order to be believable the actors who fill these roles are probably in their 70's, 80's and, gee maybe 90's? No spring chickens here.... all clearly and obviously in their 'twilight' years. And their age is kind of emphasized in these roles.... gray hair, lots of wrinkles, poor eyesight - you get the idea. Their apparent goal is to accurately represent old, wise people just like the Gmamas!
The obvious bad news is that unless you happen to be of Asian descent you probably would not be suitable for these roles. You knew there was a catch, didn't you?
Kim Young-ok (b 1937, very successful & you see her in lots of Kdramas.
She is still acting as of 2023.)
Lee Soon-jae (b 1934 and appeared in dozens and dozens of shows. Very successful and as of 2023 is still acting!)
