It's Judy. As many of you know I live in the Desert Southwest of the US. That means it's hot.... for many months. When parking cars the locals naturally hunt for shady spots. When eating in restaurants we're choosing 'indoors' during the blast furnace months. And naturally we try our best to dress in cool, comfortable clothes.
Of course in KDramas it's different! (you were expecting that weren't you?) Although I don't view Korea as a particularly 'northern' climate they apparently are much more concerned about being cold than I will ever be. KDrama fans of course notice the heavy coats, sweaters, and scarves that are de rigeur in the shows. They also encourage friends to get warm if feeling depressed, frequently ask if they're warm enough, and just generally focus on being cuddly warm.
In contrast, I -and my fellow desert dwellers- are desperately trying to keep cool. From my perspective Koreans are lucky they can bundle up to adjust their body temps.
Pat here. This doesn’t happen much, but I almost completely agree with Judy on this post, and it’s because where I live in Northern California our temps are about as warm as where Judy resides. I don’t think I own any wool clothing. In fact, I’m not sure where I can even purchase it. I love the gorgeous warm outfits the Kdrama actors wear. Guardian: The Lonely & Great God had more fantastic outerwear than any other show I’ve watched.
One big difference for me is where we eat. Before the Pandemic, we always dined inside. Now we go to great lengths to eat outside. Sad, isn’t it? We’re four years away from that terrible time, and it affects us still.
Love all the coats and scarves in the shows. Makes me feel warm and cozy
