When I visit Korea there are a number of 'must-do's' that I have compiled. I think first on my list will be to eat fried chicken. And, I'll even have a beer with the chicken since that's what they do! (This will be a big deal for me since I do not like beer, but hey, I'll push myself.) Apparently Koreans have developed an affinity for this dish and have enhanced and modified it greatly. They have 'Ganjang Chickin' (coated in soy sauce), they have 'Yangnyeoem Chickin' (coated in a spicy sauce), they have 'Huraideu Chickin' (regular fried chicken), 'Dakgangjeong Chickin' (sweet chicken), and it goes on and on. Interestingly, it seems the drumstick is the favorite piece in Korea and it's considered very polite to offer that piece to your guest.
I discovered this excellent website that explains the role and history of fried chicken in Korean society. And, although there are recipes I am going to wait till I'm visiting Korea before I try some of them! https://ling-app.com/ko/korean-fried-chicken/
We haven’t had Oh My Chicken recently! We should probably fix that sometime soon. Maybe we can take Cousin Alex when she’s in town.
Favorite Daughter is correct. Tucson has a terrific Korean Fried Chicken restaurant at Park Place Mall. They serve several types of fried chicken as well as tteokbokki! Check out "Oh My Chicken!"
So glad we found Oh My Chicken in town, it's soooooo good!
What dvankirk0 said, but also: is there a veggie option?
The fried chicken looks delish. I look forward to you offering me your chicken leg, Judy. Oh, wait! I haven't been invited to go to S. K. with you.
