Naturally Pat told me I was behind the times about this topic.... Of course they have this in the US but I certainly didn't know!
Anyway, the 'groupies' of the 60's have been replaced with 'Fangirling.' This is the rather awkward situation whereby a fan of an Kdrama star or Kpop idol becomes so infatuated with their person that it takes over their life. See photo below as an example.
Despite what some of my friends and family think I have not gotten to this precarious point yet.
Pat: Of course I disagree! You’re fangirling all over the place! Did you forget Lee Byung-hun? Or Jung Hae-in? Or your newest quest, Han Suk-kyu? Do we need to contact Kdrama Anonymous AGAIN?
Just bought the kindle version, so I can read about me not being completely foolish 😂
On this topic, I would HIGHLY recommend Tabitha Carvan's book
"this is not a book about Benedict Cumberbatch", subtitled 'the joy of loving something--anything--like your life depends on it'.
This book is a compelling, fascinating--and very funny--look at 'fangirling' as you put it, in older women, exploring a woman's place and growth in the world, and the biases and prejudices we face in owning our own joy.
