Ewwwww...

I'm going out on a limb here by saying I have no desire to have a bath with friends, co-workers, strangers, my adult children, nor fellow tourists. Much less in the nude. Yep, call it prudish but this does not sound like a relaxing, comforting experience to me.


In the Kdrama Navillera, we have a 70-something year old ballet student and his 20-something year old instructor at the heart of the story. They visit a bathhouse together and the younger man dutifully scrubs the older man's back...while reminiscing about experiencing this communal bathing with his family. The Kdrama is heartwarming but the bath scene kind of makes me shudder.



While living in Japan, my favorite daughter was invited to join the faculty at the 'Year End Bathing Trip.' She declined...

Being a modest person, I certainly couldn't embrace this experience but it is interesting that many cultures over periods of time have done this. If I had grown up with it it wouldn't be so "foreign" and awkward. I don't even embrace public saunas in this country.....sweating with strangers is not my thing.
