It's definitely surreal to go to the DMZ... how is this a 'tourist' site? Interestingly, I found it an acceptable combination of scary, saber rattling threats and a blend of souvenirs and photo opportunities. Part of the visit involves donning hard hats and hiking to the bottom of a tunnel the North Koreans built that was discovered in the late 70's. It's a very strenuous hike down a steep tunnel but I am proud to say that this Gmama made it to the bottom and, more impressively, hiked out. No piggy back rides for me!
I found the tour worthwhile. It's an effective tool to educate the public about the delicate situation between the north and south. ~ Judy
The surreal colorful sign at the DMZ... but the trip is worthwhile. My quads are still talking to me & it's been several days.
I was there in April. You might have been one of the last people to be able to go there for awhile, given the situation with North Korea right now. I'm glad I saw it, I thought it was impressive and made me more aware of part of that history of Korea.
This may encourage me to learn more about th DMZ........though will not be prepping for a quiz......
