Closed Captions/Subtitles

Face, it, we Gmamas are getting older, and not all of our parts work that well. (Don’t worry, I not going to tell you the TMI ones.) Some of us are having more trouble hearing, so we use close captioning when we watch tv. For Kdramas, we need subtitles, which are the only way we can understand what’s going on. There is a distinction here between closed captioning and subtitles, but for our purposes, they function as the same. In fact, these subtitles are a lifeline for us.

So what do we do when the subtitles are THE SAME COLOR as the clothing of the actors in a scene? We get frustrated, that’s for sure. One of my good friends pointed out this problem when he was the watching King the Land. I’m watching it now, and I want my friend to know I feel his pain. I’m waiting to be as frustrated as you, bro, but it might be in a spot that I fast forwarded. Shhh…don’t tell anyone…

For those of us who had careers in the printing business we simply call this crappy design... And I'm not referring to the foreign language shown here. ~Judy

I’m glad ALL of my parts are still working. Sometimes in overdrive if I see a picture of RM or hear his voice 😂.

Gee....JoonChild provides info to our Gmama followers that we didn't know about! Of course if you pick blue as your font color and there is a blue background you may still have issues.... Isn't life challenging?!

I've had this very problem! It turns out you can change the size AND color of the font. I'm an 'intuitive' tech user (which means I don't know what the heck I'm doing--) so I don't know if this is true for every streaming service or of Roku in general, which is how I stream things....but I was poking around for subtitles in Disney+ after my daughter turned them off, & there was a whole rainbow of font colors to choose from! This might be true of Viki & Netflix as well, I'll have to check!
