Pat here. I’m watching Behind Your Touch starring Lee Min-ki of My Liberation Notes and Han Ji-min of Our Blues. It’s a zany, crazy story that if I told you the plot you wouldn’t believe it. In the story Han Ji-min’s best friend, played by Joo Min-kyung, is trying to get someone drunk so Han Ji-min can touch his bum and try to determine if he’s a murderer. (See, I told you you wouldn’t believe the plot.)
So how does Joo Min-kyung get him wasted? She makes him countless soju bombs, which are the equivalent of exactly nothing in this country. There is a specific recipe for a soju bomb, and here it is: three parts soju to seven parts Korean beer. Here is the fun part: pour the beer into a glass. Pour the soju into a shot glass. Place two chopsticks over the beer glass and balance the shot glass on top of them. Then bang the table hard with your hands so the shot glass falls into the beer glass. Then chug!
Have I ever tried one? Nope. Do I want to? You betcha! FYI, my alcohol consumption is about 4 ounces of beer a month, so this will be very interesting. Stay tuned…
I drink soju bombs all the time but by just pouring a shot glass of soju in my Cass beer. Also like drinking soju on its own also but only the original, not the flavored ones. Be aware, its stronger than you think!
Hi Pat, when our oldest son Chris got married to his first wife, the reception was held in a restaurant called The Bamboo Club in Scottsdale on Mill Avenue. We all did saki bombers exactly as you describe.
It was lots of fun and very potent!
Happy to babysit those of you who want to indulge in this Korean tradition. Or maybe I should give it a go too?
I'm game, Pat! We can be soju-bombed together. (Judy, will you please babysit us?)
That’s like a sake bomb here! Don’t ask em how I know ;)
