*But Boys Do
Here’s a little secret: women love to see men crying (hey, that makes them almost human!). Of course the reasons for this are too multi factorial to get into here, but suffice to say a tearful guy wrenches at a gal’s heartstrings. And if you’re a Kdrama fan like Judy and me, well you’ve won the lottery. Kdramas are chock full of crying males. Yes, the female actors cry as well, and, yes, they do a pretty good job (Kim Tae-ri in “Mr. Sunshine” is a standout). I need to give credit where credit is due, I guess, but it’s the guys with tears streaming down their faces that make my day.
So how many Kdramas have actors who cry? The short answer is everyone I’ve seen so far. The long answer is every one I’ve seen so far and probably everyone I haven’t seen. Some are are just grimaces with a bit of weeping (Lee Byung-hun in “Mr. Sunshine”) and some are full on ugly cries (Kim Seon-ho in “Hometown Cha Cha Cha”) No matter, I love them all.
So little time, so many kdramas to watch…my eyes well up to think about it!
I must admit that after watching my first full Kdrama, The Amazing Attorney Woo, it was a real surprise to see men with tears. It was also very touching as it magnified the emotions the actor was feeling. I wish our culture was more open like theirs - I dislike our culture's macho men as they seem more like robots.
My husband listens from the other room while I watch my KDramas. He is always saying, “Why are they crying?” If he walks in and sees a man crying, he shakes his head and walks out of the room. I tell him he just doesn’t understand. Then I have to hide the fact that I’m trying not to cry myself. Sniff, sniff
